PortableIP:
A Static IP Address for Your DHCP Client

No matter where you are, your IP traffic reaches you!

How PortableIP Works

PortableIP is a VPN tunnel originating at the MyServer.org data center and terminating at your firewall/router, server or desktop.  With PortableIP, you are assigned a static IP address that will never change.  Traffic from the internet targeted at your PortableIP IP address arrives at the MyServer.org network, is routed through the VPN tunnel, and pops out at your machine!

The type of traffic inside the tunnel is invisible to your internet provider - so they cannot block it!  Whether you are running a web server, mail server, VOIP server or anything else, it will reach you unobstructed!

Without PortableIP

Without PortableIP, traffic can be restricted by your ISP Without PortableIP, IP traffic attempting to reach your machine must pass through routers and firewalls operated by your ISP.  This is where your ISP will implement restrictions preventing traffic for HTTP/HTTPS (port 80 and port 443), SMTP (port 25) from reaching your cable or DSL modem.

Since your cable or DSL company controls the entry point for IP traffic, you have no control over what gets in or what gets blocked.

With PortableIP

With PortableIP, all traffic reaches you With PortableIP, your DNS entries cause inbound traffic to flow through MyServer.org's state of the art datacenter: since the DNS will resolve to the static IP address assigned to your portable IP VPN tunnel.  The traffic is routed through that tunnel and arrives at your firewall/router, server, or client (where ever you configured the VPN client).

All your ISP sees is VPN traffic - so they don't block it.  The contents of the VPN tunnel are invisible to the ISP.

You are now in total control of what IP traffic reaches you and what traffic does not.  You can operate your own hardware or software firewall to allow only the traffic you want through.  This means you can run web servers, Voice over IP servers, SMTP servers, or even game servers.  You are in total control and all your ports are reachable!

Get Around Blocked Ports

The cable and DSL companies don't want you to do much more than browse the web and send email, despite the price you pay them for your internet connection.  In fact, they block access to SMTP servers outside their network.  They certainly don't want you to run web servers or mail servers.  In some cases they even block access to file sharing programs like bit torrent.

With PortablIP, all your traffic reaches you!  ...even port 80, port 443 and port 25.  You can run your own web server, SMTP server, anything you like.  Since your IP address is static it never changes!  Plus, there are no blocked ports to deal with!

PortableIP: Static IP Address

A static IP address is one that never changes.  Cable and DSL companies provide DHCP IP addresses.  The "D" in DHCP stands for dynamic, meaning the cable company can (and will) change your IP address when it suits their needs.  In some cases this can happen as often as several times an hour.  You can see this would make it hard to run a web or mail server - as the IP address is constantly in flux.

PortableIP is a static IP address.  As long as your account is paid, you keep the same IP address.  Your IP address never changes!  This is how it works for companies and web hosts running servers.  They assign an IP address and they never change it.  PortableIP lets you do the same.

PortableIP for Travelers

People who do a lot of traveling know that when outside the US, lots of content is no longer available.  Many companies display different content on their web site when they detect you are coming from an IP address outside the US.  Your favorite videos, sports, or TV shows may be inaccessible when you travel abroad.

In addition, the host country to which you travel may be blocking certain content.  Yes, believe it or not, there are many countries who limit parts of the internet: restricting what their own citizens can see.

PortableIP is a great solution for world travelers.  Whether you are in Europe or the Far East, simply connect your PortableIP VPN tunnel, and you now appear to be coming from a US issued IP address!  Content that would otherwise be hidden is now visible, and your traffic is not subject to the filtering imposed by your host country.

A Truly Portable IP Address

One of the nicest things about PortableIP is that it is really a portable IP address!  If you move or travel, your IP address is still the same.  If you decide to change your ISP, your PortableIP IP address stays the same even though your DHCP address changed.  Install your web server on your laptop and run it from your hotel room on your next vacation!  The possibilities really are endless.
